Met Daniel from Germany with his Hayabusa side-car!

Posted by Kathy Hubble | August 23, 2010 | Comments: 1

A little help from Kent and Dave at Innovative Motorsports to get Daniel back on the road again!

Daniel is travelling across the country with his daughter, Madeline, who rides in the sidecar, and he's the videographer/photojournalist with 7 other riders for the filming of a German TV show.

Rode with a guy on the weekend with the coolest dirt-bike trailer!

Here’s his KTM with the trailer – check out: www.trailtail.com – we’ll have a product review with Friso coming soon!
Here he is DURING our ride…
While stopped at James Lake, several local riders came over to ask about it…
Ahhh… the reason why Friso brings along the trailer…

What a shot!!!

New Kawasaki for 2011 Here

Posted by Jasmin Doobay | August 12, 2010 | Comments: 0

Had a great visit with my friends at Valley Moto Sport yesterday.

Sending Yvonne big hugs – she wrecked her knee dirtbiking Sunday but you’ll still see her around the shop – hobbling around.

Barry says they have the new Kawasaki Ninja 400 in both locations now.  One has been built in the Kelowna store…and next week another should be put together in the West Kelowna store.

Looking forward to taking it for a spin…along with a bunch of others sometime next week.

John DeHoop took his last ride on a Harley.

The Minnesota biker loved all things Harley, from his tattoo to his motorcycle.

So, his widow, Kathy, says she complied with John’s wish for a Harley hearse.

About 75 bikers followed the hearse after DeHoop’s funeral May 28th.

The Harley hearse is operated by the Ride In Peace Motorcycle Hearse Company.

The owners say their 475-dollar fee is about the same as for a more conventional final ride.

Riding Across the Country for ALS

C2C4ALS – cross-Canada ride for ALS.

Thursday, June 1, 2010 marks day three of the C2C4ALS ride, Doug Oakley’s second motorcycle tour to raise funds for those living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, ALS.

Eighteen months ago Doug was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It was at that moment that he knew he could no longer put off his dreams of riding the 4 Corners Tour – an epic motorcycle trip that took him to the four corners of the US, and a brief tour through Canada. Now he’s at it again.

Doug’s last trip spurred his desire to ride across Canada. However, since that ride Doug has lost the use of his hand and has to compensate by modifying the clutch on his bike. With that done, he is ready to begin the 18-day ride.

C2C4ALS will take Doug across Canada from June 29 – July 17, 2010 with stops in communities from Vancouver, British Columbia to Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. C2C4ALS will help Doug to raise awareness of ALS and raise funds for those who live with the life altering disease.

Kreater in Kelowna will kick start day three of the tour tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. The ALS Society of BC, community members and fellow riders will join Kreater in supporting Doug as he heads toward Cranbrook where he will be welcomed by family and community supporters.

Gloria Taylor of West Kelowna is looking forward to attending tomorrow’s event. In addition to founding the Kelowna Association of Injured Motorcyclists (AIM) in 1988, Gloria was diagnosed with ALS this past December.

“Through this ride Doug is providing inspiration and hope to others living with ALS,” says Gloria. “Modifying your bike to allow you to keep riding is simply amazing! I wish that I was able to join him – if I could ride with Doug you wouldn’t be able to keep me away – but some days its hard enough to just open a pop can.“

The Kelowna AIM Chapter was founded in 1988 after a friend of Gloria’s lost his daughter in a motorcycle accident and Gloria herself was hit by a car while attending the Sturgis, South Dakota, Motorcycle Classic in 1987. When the accident happened, a Vancouver AIM Lawyer, and member, was quick to contact fellow AIM members attending Sturgis who were able to secure and ship Gloria’s bike back to Vancouver. AIM then flew Gloria home to Kelowna and had her bike delivered to her doorstep a few weeks later.

As Doug touches down in communities across the country, events similar to the one Kreater will be hosting will be held at local motorcycle dealerships to bring together community members like Gloria, supporters, media and riders. While in Toronto, Doug will be sure to take in a Toronto Blue Jays game at the Rogers Centre as they are set to face Doug’s hometown team the Boston Red Sox.

Kelowna Schedule

Date:        July 1, 2010
Time:       9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Location: Kreater, 2759 Hwy 97, Kelowna

To support Doug and to find out where he will be next, follow Doug on www.doug-oakley.com or Twitter.com/dougoakley.

About Doug Oakley
Doug is a 47-year old mortgage broker, which may only be slightly more exciting than an accountant. He’s owned a Harley for 11 years, and has recently been challenged to live many of his dreams as quickly as possible. From Weymouth, Massachusetts, Doug has been involved with Compassionate Care ALS, a US based charity organization that supports patients and caregivers by providing a holistic approach to patient and caregiver support. More information on C2C4ALS and Doug can be found on www.doug-oakley.com or Twitter.com/dougoakley.

Tribute to Dad on Father’s Day

Posted by Marissa Baecker | June 20, 2010 | Comments: 1

A tribute to my father today pictured at the grand opening of his first Yamaha dealership in Lumsden Saskatchewan in the early 70’s. That’s me on the right.

Dad, you have taught me so many things – how to never give up, how to work hard for what you want and that life presents you everything you want but it only feels right if you have earned it.

You came to Canada as an immigrant and immediately you strived for the top and opened your own business. You took us all over the world to show us that there were no boundaries to what you could do.

You bought me my first car – that 1975 Valiant that you surprised with in your garage and then calmly closed the door and told me the keys were mine when I had earned enough money for insurance. A lesson I will never forget and one that has brought me many laughs.

Even though we didn’t have a traditional yard, you still asked the drivers to arrange the motorcycle crates in such a way that we could still play hide and seek at night when the shop closed.

So, today, Dad, I want to wish you the best Father’s Day possible – wish I was there.

Avid rider shares a must-have for your bike

Bob Smith points to his recently installed tire pressure monitor

On a recent trip to the U.S., avid rider Bob Smith stumbled across a gadget that he says could save rider’s lives, tires and accidents.

Doran 360M – Tire Pressure Monitoring System for Motorcycles is only available in the U.S. However, Smith, picked up several during his trip because he believes all bikes should have one.

The device comes with sensors that can be installed inside or outside of the tire rim and then a display monitor is installed on the handlebars. The monitor accurately keeps real time readings of tire pressure. Perfect for long trips when the last thing you want is to blow a tire in the middle of nowhere.

With proper tire pressure, you can increase the life span of your bike tires by 40% says Doran 360M. They are easy to install and if you would like to purchase one, Bob has extras. Just send us an e-mail to contact@motorcygalz.com and we will forward Bob’s contact information on to you.

Additional Inlay Colours and Patterns; 1,300 Possible Combinations Now Offered

Five new patterns and four new inlays have been added to the HD Custom Seat Program, that allows the rider to design a leather seat that is hand-built to their specs. The program now includes two seat styles, 13 stitching patterns, 14 simulated exotic leather inlays, and 10 thread colours –  1,300 possible combinations.

The new patterns are Swept, Spade, Dark Angel, Number One Skull, and Torn. The new inlay choices are Pink Gator, Tan Gator, Purple Gator, and Tan Cowhide.

The custom designs are available for the solo Brawler® seat (part number 52246-08) or the two-up Sidekick® seat (part number 52193-08) and are designed to fit many 2006-later Dyna®, Softail®, and Touring models. Each features a hand-laid fibreglass seat pan with a soft, felt-finish bottom that is scratch free. The seating surface is genuine leather, and the leather inlay options have a simulated exotic skin pattern. Each seat also has an embroidered Bar & Shield logo.

The design process begins at the Custom Seat Program website, www.harley-davidson.com/customseat, where on-screen prompts help the Customer to select a seat style, stitching pattern, inlay colour, and stitching colour options. When the design is complete, the Customer takes a print-out of the seat design details to a local Harley-Davidson® Retailer, who will submit the custom seat order. The standard lead time for seat delivery is three weeks.

Thank gawd we went for a burn yesterday…

‘Cause the weather today sucks!

Forecast for the Okanagan for today, tonight and tomorrow: showers, thunder, wind, showers & showers.  Friday’s supposed to be cloudy…the weekend looks great…so far!

Had a great burn up Highway 97 to Vernon with good friend Kathy Hubble from Innovative Motor Sports.  She’s an excellent rider, former racer and former movie stunt person.  I completely admire her confidence in traffic and with her bike.  10 thousand more hours on mine and I might have a fraction of her abilities.

We zoomed over to see the gang at Four Seasons Motor Sports on 25th www.vernonpolaris.com and then Vernon Motorsports at the north end of Vernon on Highway 97 www.vernonmotorsports.com

Very fun to put the bright yellow streak (Suzuki SV 650) and the candy lime green machine (Kawasaki Ninja 650) out on the road together for a bit of a spin. (now if only I could actually keep up with her!)

New Digital Oil Pressure Gauge from Harley-Davidson

Posted by Marissa Baecker | May 8, 2010 | Comments: 0

Blue Display Shines Through Mirrored Glass Gauge Face

Monitor a vital engine sign with the new Digital Oil Pressure Gauge (P/N 75138-09) from Harley-Davidson® Genuine Motor AccessoriesTM. This accurate gauge mounts with a bracket to the rear-cylinder rocker box cover, and reads oil pressure in PSI or BAR. Its brilliant blue digital display appears through a mirror-coated glass when the ignition is on. The read-out is invisible when the ignition is off. The brightness of the display adjusts automatically to improve its visibility in bright sunlight, and dims at night to avoid distraction. The kit includes a die-cast, chrome-plated mounting bracket with gauge, a pressure sensor, and a wiring harness. The Digital Oil Pressure Gauge fits 1999-later Dyna®, 2000-later Softail®, 1999-later Road King®, and 1999-2003 Electra Glide® Standard models. It does not fit with some accessories. See an authorized Harley-Davidson® Retailer for details.

Bathe a Parked Motorcycle in Brilliant, Colourful LED Light

Display a bike in dazzling colour with the new Electra GloTM Rider Footboard Inserts (P/N 50745-10, red) and Electra GloTM Passenger Footboard Inserts (P/N 51287-10, red) from Harley-Davidson® Genuine Motor AccessoriesTM. The moulded rubber insert appears charcoal black in normal operation, with a mirrored chrome surround and Bar & Shield logo as finishing touches. But when the bike is parked and the ignition is turned to the accessory setting, the surface explodes with 36 brilliant LED lamps, washing the surface in light and reflecting off of the chrome engine and exhaust trim. Available LED colour options are red, blue, purple, or amber, which match with the corresponding Electra GloTM Light Pods. The inserts fit 1986-later Harley-Davidson® Touring models with “D-shaped” footboards, and are easy to install with wiring that plugs into the Factory harness.

Who does this mannequin think he is - Marilyn Manson?

So the idea behind chaps is warmth mainly. If you have gone out for a Spring or Fall ride in just your denims, you can attest to the fact that it may have taken some time to warm up afterward. Idea number two is protection for your legs. However, if you should bite the dust and slide on your butt – you are in trouble.

I do believe that this mannequin is an example of just that. The after effects – legs are good, jeans – what jeans?
